Finally. A new Mac Pro.

It’s been 6 years since Apple launched a new Mac Pro. At that time with a totally different approach to the “professional” market. Because, what really defines the pro market? It’s a good question, with a lot of answers. Who are really professionals? According to the definitions, we are all some kind of “professional”, but I found one definition in the Cambridge Dictionary that might fit very well for the new Mac Pro:

/prəˈfeʃ.ən.əl/

“used to describe someone who does a job that people usually do as a hobby”

Cambridge dictionary

I would say that anyone who uses a computer to produce a product, and then sell it, is a professional user. In that sense, it is not wrong by Apple to use “Pro” in products such as iPad, MacBook and iMac. All of these can be used by photographers, graphic designers, designers, programmers, etc..

Apple already had very good products for the vast majority of professional users, with the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac and iMac Pro. So this time, there is another group they are addressing. The new Mac Pro is for those who need as much computing power as possible. Those who need Intel’s Xeon with 28 cores, not those who manage with i7 or i9. Those who may need 1.5TB of RAM, not those who think 64GB is enough. Those who understand that $ 20,000 for a computer is not necessarily expensive. These are the customers Apple is aiming for with the new Mac Pro.

Entry model:

  • 8 core Intel Xeon with turbo boost up to 4.0GHz
  • 32GB ECC RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • AMD Radeon Pro 580X

Price: USD 5999

Topp model:

  • 28 core Intel Xeon
  • 1,5TB ECC RAM
  • 4TB SSD
  • 2x AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo
  • Apple Afterburner

Price: Unknown

In addition, you can upgrade your machines using the 8 PCIe slots, or via Thunderbolt 3.

ILL: APPLE

Apple has finally delivered a new “high end” Mac, but I feel like there is room for another desktop Mac. In terms price and spec, there is a gap between the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro that Apple is unable to fill. They will probably say it is covered by the iMac, but what about those who want to choose the monitors themselves? In fact, I think it is time for a new Cube, and this time I think it would be a success. Specifications could start with 6-core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and AMD Radeon Pro 570X for USD 2199… What do you think?
