This is probably the most interesting change in computer silicon ever. I belive this has the potential to disrupt the creative professional computer market. Apple is now in a position to crush all the others on performance – if they do things right!
The big question is just that, what is the right thing to do? There are multiple options. They can build a modular professional laptop with custom silicon for filmmakers and another set of custom silicon optimized for music production etc..
Imagine if they designed in swappable bays in their MacBook Pros, for a mobile version of Afterburner-like cards/modules. They can sell a “base” config where these bays are empty, and what you get is a laptop with a great display , but only “ok” performance. Then the pros can choose what kind of performance they need and are willing to invest in. One module optimised for Final Cut, one for Logic, one made in cooperation with Adobe for Photoshop and Lightroom etc.. The more I think about it, the more I like that Idea. What do you think?
Also watch Rene Ritchies YouTube video on this topic below. He brings up some interesting ideas as well.
Let’s discuss in the comments below. This is Apples chance to change the industry again.
