KimMarch was the first month ever, where electric cars had more than 50% of the new car sales in Norway. In total, 57% of all new cars registered in March were fully electric cars.
It should be said, that the reason for these numbers is an extreme amount of Tesla Model 3, which many customers have been waiting a long time for. We may not expect the same volume in the future. It is nevertheless important that growth continues, and that other manufacturers come out with volume models that have enough range.
A total of 18213 passenger cars were registered in Norway in March. 10316 of these were electric cars. Road director, Terje Moe, tells Vegnett.no that their forecast is that we will have 1.5 million electric cars on Norwegian roads in 2030.
The fact that we are continuing the transition to full-electric cars is extremely important. Nettavisen.no wrote in September last year that 400,000 people in Europe die prematurely of air pollution. A report prepared by the ECA (EU audit body) states that air pollution causes billions of euros in health costs every year for the European countries.
This is certainly not a problem in Europe only. The European Heart Journal recently published a study, stating that 8.8 million people worldwide die prematurely due to air pollution. In China, this figure is 2.8 million. These are extremely large numbers, just shows the importance of starting to reduce local pollution now!
